Call For Art: AMP Placemaking Project

GJ Creates, the AMP at Las Colonias Park, and the City of Grand Junction Parks and Recreation office are seeking an artist or team of artists to design an interactive sculpture for the west AMP entry way. The selected artist will work with GJ Creates and the AMP to design and build a piece for a fall 2023 installation.

  • One artist or one team of artists will be selected
  • Total project budget is $15,000. Budget includes artist commission

Project Description:

The AMP at Las Colonias Park is a 5,000 seat venue hosting national touring bands, comedians, and community events. The AMP sits within Las Colonias Park, which has recently seen new housing developments, recreation opportunities, and connections to Downtown Grand Junction. In January 2023, GJ Creates and the AMP started initial conversations about building a placemaking element at the west entry of the AMP to help create a sense of arrival at the venue. The project should add vibrancy to the space and include: interactive elements, solar lights, photo opportunities, and provide a sense of arrival for concert guests. Approximate locations are identified by the yellow squares in the photo above. The installation should fit on a roughly 10 ft x 10 ft area. Creative layouts will be considered.

Artist will work with the Amp and GJ Parks and Rec to secure installation. Piece will remain in place for the 2024 season with the option to relocate it in the future.
