Call For Art: Urban Fibers Dress the Sculptures

Brrrrrr… our sculptures are cold! Help them out! GJ Creates is seeking artists for a temporary fiber-based art installation to promote public art and highlight local artisans. Individual artists may submit a proposal(s) to provide the listed sculptures new winter ‘attire’ using yarn, textiles, various fibers, recycled plastics or combined materials.

  • Installations will be at 10 locations downtown
  • $100 per installation. Artists can apply for multiple installation sites
  • Budget includes artist commission
  • Installation dates – February 15–17

Project Description:

The honorarium price is $100 per sculpture attire. Specific sculptures have been selected to be ‘clothed’. Selected artists will receive payment after February 17, 2024 and the completed installation of their work. All expenses for materials, labor, transportation, installation, as well as any other associated expenses are the sole responsibility of the artist. See image for installation locations.

Environmentally friendly or recycled materials are preferred for the installations. Yarn, cloth, rope, and other fiber-based materials may be used in the installations. The artist may not use glue, wire or any adhesive to attach the work. The materials used for the project are expected to survive all weather conditions, ie; snow, rain, wind and sun.

Installation:

The artist is responsible for the installation of the ‘attire’ and sculptures must not be damaged during the installation or exhibit.
