Call For Art: Welcome to Junction

GJ Creates in partnership with Timberline Bank and the Western Colorado Community Foundation, is seeking an artist to complete a “Welcome to Junction” mural at 500 Main Street. The artist will complete a mural on the west facing wall, roughly 6 ft x 20 ft, incorporating images unique to Downtown Grand Junction, and the Grand Valley.

    • One artist will be selected. Project award is $2,000
    • Application Deadline: Wednesday, July 21, 2021. Applications are closed.

Project Description:

Located on a main thoroughfare through the middle of Downtown Grand Junction, this new mural installation will be a highly visited and well photographed addition to downtown.

The selected artist will complete a mural approximately 6 feet x 20 feet (shown in highlighted area). Exact size and shape of the mural is open to the artist’s interpretation. Artists are not expected to cover the entire area, however a successful proposal will utilize most of the available space.

The mural must include “Welcome to Junction” in the style of similar “Welcome to” murals (Examples above). In each letter of “Junction” artists should include images unique to Downtown Grand Junction, and the Grand Valley. Exact details are open to the artists interpretation but must include a timberline tree and a spiral, subtle call backs to our sponsor’s logos. Colors should also compliment the blue grey wall color at 500 Main Street.

Proposals will be evaluated by overall creativity, design, and aesthetic. The project concept will be approved by the GJ Creates committee and representatives from Timberline Bank, WCCF, and the property owner of 500 Main Street. The selected artist will be notified by August 4, 2021.
