Call For Songs: *this is not a phone

GJ Creates, the Grand Junction Incubator, and the GJ Makerspace are seeking original songs from local musicians for an update to the *this is not a phone project located at Trail Life Brewing, 436 Main Street. 

 

  • Songs must be original compositions. No covers, no AI created songs.
  • Ideal song length 3:00 – 5:00 minutes. 
  • Submit songs in an mp3 format.
  • Deadline to submit a song is May 22 .

Project Description:

This collaborative project by features a restored payphone recovered from the downtown coffee shop Roasted, formerly located at 5th and Colorado Avenue. This project celebrates downtown arts and culture while showcasing a creative application of S.T.E.A.M. — science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Working with the GJ Makerspace we reprogrammed the phone to play music from local bands rather than make calls. Dial a number, and instead of making a call, you’ll hear a recording of a local band’s song. 

The project debuted in November 2025, and has since won a Downtown Colorado Inc. award for Best Art PopUp!

Songs from all musical genres are welcome! Classical to metal, noise to pop. Send us your songs!    

Installation:

All songs will be collected and programmed into the phone. The new collection will debut early Summer 2026.
